With the exception of illness or death, there is nothing more devastating to a family or any individual than losing their home.  "There's no place like home" is one of those phrases that charecterizes life in the United States.  Homeownership is  a cornerstone of the American way of life that is protected, promoted & cherished.  To lose a home for any reason is devastating, but to lose it through foreclosure is not only devastating but embarassing and demeaning.
