Welcome To Hanover County Real Estate & General Information

Hanover County is rich in history.  It is the birthplace and the home of Patrick Henry (“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!”) as well as Henry Clay.  Here you will find many historical sites, from both the Revolutionary War as well as the Civil War.

There are lots of reasons people choose to live in Hanover County.  The area has the lowest poverty rate in the US for jurisdictions it’s size, the unemployment rate is historically the lowest in the area and the schools are highly rated.

Every few years, Hanover County takes a survey of a representative sample of it’s citizens and publishes  it’s Citizens Survey Report.  This survey was completed in 2005 and again in 2009 and it had some interesting findings.  The survey found that 95% of the people surveyed in Hanover County rated the overall quality of life in Hanover County as excellent, which was up from 92% in 2005!  The complete report can be seen by clicking here!

Hanover County embodies the best of all worlds.  You have the town of Ashland, an authentic railroad town & home to Randolph Macon College.  You have several planned communities, such as Kings Charter, Ash Creek & Milestone, offering a complete amenity package for the homeowners.  You have Mechanicsville, with it’s mix of older neighborhoods as well as newer neighborhoods.  Finally, you have many rural communities in areas like Montpelier & Beaverdam, which are still within an easy drive of the city of Richmond as well as Henrico County.  Hanover is home to the internationally renowned Hanover Tomato, is great horse country and has some of the finest livestock farms in Virginia.

Hanover offers lots of options for everyone, from farms & acreage properties, to older brick ranchers & capes, to newer homes with more open floorplans.  Because of it’s zoning restrictions, it is only within the past couple of years that you have begun to see condos & townhomes being built in Hanover County.  Many of these have been geared to the over 55 buyer; however, with neighborhoods like Rutland (along Rt. 301) being developed I would believe that we should begin to see more condo and townhome communities within Hanover County.
